Monk and his Peers

As I have said in the FAQ section I have a lot of respect for a number of cartoonists out there so a recent project has been to send an email to them and let them know this fact and at the same time let them know of the existence of the Monk and his I.T. Junk comic; and see what happens. The cool thing would be for them to take a look at the comic and offer some valuable advice. However, many of these are busy people and I have a feeling my little communicaton is likely to slip into the well of doom. However, I have had one reply, from Aaron Johnson of WhattheDuck.net, which was a great boost to Monk and I’s morale.

Compared to some, or in fact most, of these people my drawing skills are way under par and my humour is probably a bit dry for most but I am working on these, and as my partner puts it ‘there is a certain innocence’ to the way the images are drawn. However, if you compare early Monk to later Monk there is a significant difference and every chance I get to practice sketching Monk I take it.

I still haven’t nailed the look of Monk and some of the other characters yet. Monk has a tendency to have subtle differences from one comic to another and I’m not always aware of these until someone points them out, in some he has a larger neck, more hair, bigger eyes, shorter nose whilst someone pointed out that in some cartoons he has five fingers and only four in others!

All feedback, whether bad or good, is good feedback (as long as its constructive of course!) so we welcome it all with open arms.
